The older I am, the more I understand that one must be cautious about whom one hangs out with.  As Confucius said, "listen to what one says and observe what one does.” This means to judge a person not by his words only but also by his actions; so that you will know them better.  Proverbs, the book of wisdom in the Bible, tells us a lot about fools, and how one will suffer loss when they are friends with them. Some are very pictorial and vivid. Here are a few verses:

“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” Proverbs 13:20 NLT

“Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.”Proverbs 14:7 NLT

“Hiding hatred makes you a liar; slandering others makes you a fool.” Proverbs 10:18 NLT

“You cannot separate fools from their foolishness, even though you grind them like grain with mortar and pestle.” Proverbs 27:22 NLT

“Better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool. A fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes 7:5-6 NLT

“It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fools; this also is vanity.” Ecclesiastes 7:5-6 ESV

“Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king.” Ecclesiastes 9:17 NLT

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Proverbs 1:7 NLT

“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” Proverbs 28:26 ESV
