受難日Good Friday/The Crucifixion
The Friday before Easter (Resurrection Sunday is called Good Friday.
Good means sacred and holy. It means that this is “Holy Friday.”
It’s to commemorate the death and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ
on Mount Golgotha (also known as Calvary, Place of a Skull.)
The Lord established the Holy Communion
at the last supper with the twelve disciples.
He commanded us to remember his death
with this ceremony until he comes again.
We should commemorate that he died for our sins,
and to remind us of his grace.
The death of the Lord Jesus Christ is a triumphal prelude
to his victory over the power of death.
Let us sing Hallelujah! The Lord has triumphed!
Let us give thanks for this perfect salvation,
amazing grace, and wonderful love!
“As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name.
They compelled this man to carry his cross.
And when they came to a place called Golgotha
(which means Place of a Skull), they offered him wine to drink,
mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.
And when they had crucified him,
they divided his garments among them by casting lots.
Then they sat down and kept watch over him there.
And over his head they put the charge against him,
which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.””
Matthew 27:32-37 ESV
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened.
And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,
and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city
and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him,
keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place,
they were filled with awe and said,
“Truly this was the Son of God!””
Matthew 27:50-54 ESV
“For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you,
that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,
and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said,
“This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this,
as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord
in an unworthy manner will be guilty
concerning the body and blood of the Lord.
Let a person examine himself, then,
and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For anyone who eats and drinks
without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.”
1 Corinthians 11:23-29 ESV
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? ”
1 Corinthians 15:55 NLT
