A Light Unto My Path

耶和華的律法全備,能甦醒人心;

耶和華的道理潔淨,存到永遠;

都比金子可羨慕,且比極多的精金可羨慕;

Our physical life needs food to grow,

And many records in the Bible remind us

“ man does not live by bread alone,

but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

(Refer to Deuteronomy 8:3, Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4)

 To grow spiritually, we must be fed and eat spiritual food.

 Spiritual food is God's Word, and God's Word is recorded in the Bible.

 The best way to take care of our spiritual life is -

 to learn God's Word and follow it.

 God’s Word can awaken and heal our heart.  It makes us wise and have peace.

It can renew our mind and transform us.

 The Word of God is the lamp at our feet, the light on the road, that guides us on the path of righteousness.

“The unfolding of your words gives light;

it gives understanding to the simple.”

Psalms 119:130 NIV

“The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.

The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.”

Psalms 19:7 NLT

“Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever.

The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.

They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.

 They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.”

Psalms 19:9-10 NLT

“My mouth shall speak wisdom;

 the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.”

Psalm 49:3 ESV

“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light,

and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,”

Proverbs 6:23 ESV

保重/Take Care

「至於我,我曾說:耶和華啊!求祢恩待我;

People often say "Take care" when they say goodbye to each other. This word means to protect and cherish your good health.  Our spiritual life is the same, we need to take good care!  Because the health of spiritual life is related to our relationship with God, and our hope for eternal life. Healthy spiritual life shows our faith in God. Such faith drives away fear and anxiety and brings us hope and peace.  Since we know God will look after us and protect us,  we have confidence that God must have a beautiful plan for us.  Dear brothers and sisters, take care!  Not only the physical body, but also the spiritual life!  May we all have a healthy body and mature spiritual life, to fulfill the life plan and purpose God has in store for us, and press on toward the goal!

“The Lord sustains him on his sickbed;

in his illness you restore him to full health.”

Psalm 41:3 ESV

“Be still, and know that I am God. ”

Psalm 46:10a ESV

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,

on those who hope in his steadfast love,”

Psalm 33:18 ESV

“As for me, I said, “O Lord, be gracious to me;

heal me, for I have sinned against you!””

Psalm 41:4 ESV

“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you

and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”

3 John 1:2 NLT

Breath

若不是耶和華建造房屋, 建造的人就枉然勞力;

然而,我當得的理必在耶和華那裏;

We ought to know and set the true priority in life.  We work hard all our lives, thinking that we can stand upright on our own, thinking that we can accumulate something for ourselves, but ignore the creator of this universe who gives the breath of life. When the end of life suddenly strikes, our hard work and accumulated wealth cannot be exchanged for one single breath.

“In his hand is the life of every living thing

and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 12:10 ESV

“Instead, you ought to say,

“If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.””

James 4:15 NIV

“For he will command his angels concerning you

to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands,

 so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

Psalms 91:11-12 NIV

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

 the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Psalm 127:1 ESV

“But I said, “I have labored in vain;

 I have spent my strength for nothing at all.

Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand,

and my reward is with my God.””

Isaiah 49:4 NIV

Don't Look Back

A person's life journey will not only have one encounter,

nor will there be only one emotion; whether it’s bitter or sweet,

whether it is happy or sorrowful, whether it is hot or cold, only we can tell.

We pass through each encounter, each one is temporary,

and all of them will become a part of the past.

If we are hindered from moving forward because of nostalgia for the past,

or are immersed too deeply in our emotions,

then we must come to recognize it.

We must not let it affect our intimacy with God.

We must not set our mind on the flesh. Our time is short compared with eternity. We need to be willing to choose to set our mind on

God's perfect and pleasing will.

Let us rejoice in welcoming a new chapter in life.

Let us focus on the things with eternal significance,

and let’s welcome the abundant life that God has in store for us.

 Let’s not be like Lot’s wife, not focusing on God’s deliverance, but looking back.

She looked back at the destroyed Sodom, and then she became a pillar of salt.

Let us not be like the Israelites who have exited Egypt;

they longed for the days of slavery in Egypt,

complained about the freedom God had given them in the desert,

and therefore they were unable to enter the promised land of milk and honey,

the land of Canaan, which God had in store for them.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed

by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern

what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Romans 12:2 ESV

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things

 of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on

 the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death,

but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God,

for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Romans 8:5-8 ESV

Compassion

我的拯救、我的榮耀都在乎神;

耶和華必成全關乎我的事;

Our God is a God who is compassionate to those who trust in Him.

 What does compassion mean?

Compassion is an expression of sympathy, affection, and care.

This is different from empathy.

 Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feeling of what happened to others,

 while compassion takes it further.

Compassion takes action to help.

Empathy is not necessarily based on love,

but compassion is sympathy because of love,

therefore, being compassionate, therefore, caring.  How blessed is that we can trust this compassionate God,

and rely on this God who loves us!

“As a father shows compassion to his children,

so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”

Psalm 103:13-14 ESV

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him

 and saved him out of all his troubles.

 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who

 fear him, and delivers them.”

Psalm 34:6-7 ESV

“On God rests my salvation and my glory;

my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”

Psalm 62:7 ESV

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;

your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

Do not forsake the work of your hands.”

Psalm 138:8 ESV

““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

whose trust is the Lord.”

Jeremiah 17:7 ESV

What Matters Is

求祢使我清晨得聽祢慈愛之言 因我倚靠祢;

願你堅立我們手所做的工;

人心籌算自己的道路;

Are you in the midst of toil and sorrow?

Do you feel that the future is uncertain?

Do you feel that life is such a long journey,

and you don't know which direction to go?

People often say that no matter what you do,

it doesn’t matter where you are,

what matters is who is with you.

 No matter where you plan to go,

no matter what you want to do,

 You must let

 God, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit

 be your companion.

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;

 my soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen for the morning,

more than watchmen for the morning.”

Psalm 130:5-6 ESV

“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.

Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”

Psalm 143:8 ESV

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!

Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!”

Psalm 143:10 ESV

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,

 and establish the work of our hands upon us;

yes, establish the work of our hands!”

Psalm 90:17 ESV

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

Proverbs 16:9 ESV
