Broken Window Effect( Theory )
I saw the following scripture yesterday. It says , “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” (Proverbs 25:28 ESV)
This description reminds me of the “Broken window effect( or theory)” in psychology. It simply means that if a broken window is not repaired immediately then there will be more damage to come. It becomes the norm that others follow. At first there is just one broken window, then two, then three, soon there will be broken windows all over the street. We must be vigilant and self-disciplined. We must subdue our own hearts, and not let our lives have a broken window effect.
“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”
- Genesis 4:7 ESV
“—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”」
- 2 Peter 2:19b NIV
“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body
so that you obey its evil desires.”
- Romans 6:12 NIV
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
- Galatians 6:7-8 NIV
