什麼是敎會？敎會與敎堂有什麼不同呢？

曾任北美基督神學院院長的劉志信牧師在他的著作「探索」是這麼解釋的：「教會（church）一詞原是指為了一定的目的而聚集在一起的一群人。在聖經裡更具體的說到，這一群人是神所召出來的。「惟有你們是被揀選的族類，是有君尊的祭司，是聖潔的國度，是屬 上帝 的子民，要叫你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。」（彼得前書 二章九節）所以教會是神所揀選的一群人，他們從世界的黑暗中被呼召出來，分別為聖，成為神的子民。這個族類聚在一起敬拜神，並且傳揚神慈愛與公義的美德。

教會與教堂完全不同，因為教會指的是聚在一起的一群基督徒，而教堂只是一個建築物而已。教堂雖然是基督徒聚會的地方，但是基督徒聚會的地方不一定是教堂。

因為教會是由一群人組成的，所以教會是個有生命的群體，也就是說，教會是個生物體而不是一個死的組織。教會會成長與衰退，有愛心，但也會有人的問題。」

教會是普世信徒的總稱，是地方的基督徒群體，是家庭固定聚會的群體，教會是基督徒的聚會。

「我還告訴你，你是彼得 ，我要把我的教會建造在這磐石上；陰間的權柄 不能勝過他。」馬太福音 16:18

What is a church? What's the difference between church and chapel?

Rev. Frank Liu, the previous dean of the Christian Leadership Institute, explained in his book "Explore ": "The term “church” originally refers to a group of people gathered together for a certain purpose. More specifically says in the Bible that this group of people are called by God. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9 ESV) Therefore church is a group of people chosen by God. A church is completely different from a chapel , because a church refers to a group of Christians gathered together, and a chapel is just a building. Although a chapel is a place where Christians meet, but where Christians meet is not necessarily to be in a chapel .

Because the church is composed of a group of people, the church is a living group, that is to say, the church is a living organism rather than a dead organization. The church will grow and decline, love caring, but there will also be problems. "

The church is the general term for believers in the world. It is a local Christian group. It is a group of Christian gatherings at a fixed household , and a church is a gathering of Christians.
